I beat nioh 1 for the first time a couple weeks ago and used a heavy ninjutsu build, it felt quite broken as most bosses were dead very quickly with a few storm kunai. I started Nioh 2 and decided not to use ninjutsu or magic this time and just focus on tonfa and fists and its going quite well so far.

This was (one of) the problem(s) in Nioh 1 as well. Pretty much every meta build ever used powerful onmyo in Nioh 1, but that didn't mean they used an onmyo build or heavy onmyo investment or even moderate onmyo investment.
