Try to stop and restart the server again. If indeed the challenge is port 5432 as you suspect, you can try to start postgres on another port say 5433 and see what happens. Big surprise, the problem was an issue with the Java client. RTM SP8 release notes states that it supports Java client 1.4.1_02; it does on the server, where I didn't have any trouble logging in with that client. However, it didn't on the remote client. When Java 1.3.1_09 was installed on the remote client, I could successfully connect.

I tried opening dbd's support page (support.deadbydaylight.com) and it won't load BUT deadbydaylight.com opens ... This flag could override the my.cnf location, and that would result in a socket not being found where the my.cnf file indicates it should be.
